Why Chiropractic Research Matters
As Ontario’s population ages and chronic neuro-Musculoskeletal (nMSK) conditions rise, chiropractors are essential in helping people manage their pain and improve long-term wellness. With a strong foundation in research, chiropractic care is better equipped to meet patients’ evolving needs.
Specifically, chiropractic care research:
• Informs clinical decisions and supports effective treatment strategies
• Confirms the safety and benefits of chiropractic care
• Advances understandings of pain and personalized treatment approaches
• Drives continuous improvement in practice
• Builds public trust and professional credibility
• Informs public policy to support health system decisions
At its core, research helps expand the understanding of spine, muscle, joint and nervous system conditions, and strengthens every aspect of patient care.
How the OCA Supports Research
In addition to funding chiropractic care research at the individual and organizational levels, the OCA supports evidence-based chiropractic care and knowledge translation initiatives, as well as encourages members to lead their own research projects and participate in research driven by their peers.
The OCA’s innovative electronic health record (EHR) and practice management solution, Aspire is designed to advance chiropractic research and support researchers by gathering data insights and creating customized tools.
The OCA also provides support through promotion and collaboration with leading chiropractic research entities including the Canadian Chiropractic Research Foundation (CCRF) and Canadian Chiropractic Guideline Initiative (CCGI). Both organizations play a critical role in advancing chiropractic research in Canada.
