We’re excited to share that the Ontario government recently announced consultations on a proposal to benefit patients getting chiropractic care. This proposal would expand scope of practice to authorize chiropractors to order advanced diagnostic imaging tests (MRIs, CT scans and diagnostic ultrasounds) for their patients.
What does this proposal for scope expansion mean?

What can you do now to support this proposal for scope expansion?
The Ontario government’s consultations on scope expansion for chiropractors are a milestone in helping patients get diagnosed and treated faster. We encourage you to send a letter to your local Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP), so they know this is an important issue for you. The benefits of chiropractors being authorized to order
MRIs, CTs and diagnostic ultrasounds include:
- Helping patients get a diagnosis and treatment plan sooner
- Removing barriers to health care for some patients without family doctors
- Reducing time off work and time spent away from family
- Easing administrative burden for family doctors
- Fewer urgent care and emergency department visits for unmanaged Musculoskeletal (MSK) – including spine, muscle, and joint conditions
A recent IPSOS poll of Ontarians found that an overwhelming majority of chiropractic patients – 97 per cent – support chiropractors being authorized to order MRIs, CT scans and diagnostic ultrasounds so that they can get the care they need sooner.
