Journey to Becoming a Chiropractor
In the mid-1980s, while studying pre-med at the University of Toronto, I became deeply interested in holistic and patient-centered models of care. Through a course in Medical Anthropology, I was introduced to non-allopathic approaches, including chiropractic. The idea of helping patients heal through conservative, non-pharmacological methods immediately resonated with me and inspired my career path.
At the same time, a family member was experiencing acute low back pain. Her medical doctor referred her to a chiropractor with whom he shared office space and within a few days she made a complete recovery. After speaking with a few chiropractors, I decided chiropractic was a career path I wanted to follow. I applied to the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College and was accepted into the program the following September.
Region of Practice and Clinical Work
I own the Bedford Park Chiropractic Clinic, a community-based, multi-disciplinary practice in mid-town Toronto. I primarily use hands-on techniques such as myofascial therapy, spinal and extremity mobilization, and Diversified adjustments, complemented when appropriate by drop table, pelvic blocking, or instrument-assisted methods.
My Motto or Mantra
“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”.

Leadership Engagement
Drawing from my professional journey, I have developed a robust set of specialized and applicable skills that I will bring to the board. I work effectively with others. I come to meetings well prepared by thoroughly reading all meeting material and by conducting further research to better understand topics with which I am not familiar.
During meetings I engage in respectful discussions and actively listen to the opinions of others. I am a strategic thinker, demonstrate leadership abilities, and have strong communication skills. Based on my experiences in teaching, research, regulation, advocacy and private practice I can draw on my institutional memory to be an effective problem-solver. At my core, I am a strong believer in procedural fairness and natural justice. I have a thorough and advanced understanding of the chiropractic profession’s challenges, obstacles, and opportunities from both a historical and contemporary perspective.
Additionally, I helped unionize the CMCC faculty and served as president of CUPE Local 4773 for 14 years. I’ve served on the Council of the College of Chiropractors of Ontario, and the Board of Directors of the Ontario Chiropractic Association.
Research Initiatives and Achievements
During my career, I have authored two textbooks, several textbook chapters and published over 100 articles, 70 of which were published in indexed, peer-reviewed journals. These articles span several topics including jurisprudence, ethics, chiropractic education, chiropractic technique and chiropractic care for children and older patients. I have been invited to present my research throughout Canada, the United States, as well as London, Paris, Madrid, Rio, and Copenhagen. Since the late 1990s, I have been appointed to several editorial boards and serve as a peer reviewer for over a dozen publications and conferences.
I joined the faculty at CMCC in 1994. Over the next 27 years I taught technique, technique systems, clinical education and geriatrics, mentoring young and aspiring chiropractors: I’ve taught roughly half of all chiropractors in Canada.
I continue to teach internationally and offer hands-on technique workshops.
Community Programs and Initiatives
I have volunteered on several editorial panels as a guest editor and peer review for over a dozen publications and national and international conferences. I have served on several boards at CMCC (most notably the curriculum committee), the Executive of CUPE Local 4773, all statutory committees of CCO and on the executive, Research, and Finance and Audit committees of OCA.
