Canadian chiropractor selling Quito, Ecuador practice

Category: Marketplace / Practice For Sale

Description:

Retiring Canadian chiropractor (CMCC Class of ’99) selling his stylish boutique practice in Quito, Ecuador.

After more than 8 years in Quito, I’m retiring and offering up my absolutely “turn-key” practice in the heart of north Quito. The practice (known as Quito Quiropractico) has been more of a satellite office for a few years, but is well known in Quito and just needs a little Internet marketing to bring it back to prominence in a city of 2.5 million inhabitants serviced by only about a dozen chiropractors – no more than four of whom are qualified foreigners. Although some Ecuadorians here speak English, this practice is most appropriate for doctors who speak at least a little Spanish and are willing to learn up to a “conversational” level.

The clinic is on the ground floor of a newish condo building (Edificio Edwards) with a concierge in a safe area. Free parking exists on the street out front of the clinic. The office space is about 750+ square feet and very efficiently laid out with 3 treatment rooms, a consult room, a reception area, a kitchen, and 2 bathrooms. Two underground garage spaces are included too. The rent per month is currently locked in at $780 USD (including wi-fi) with the only other expenses being water (about $5) and electricity (about $18). Being “turn-key,” the clinic includes all furniture (which is owned by the landlord) and everything needed for assessment and treatment:  3 chiro tables (with drop pieces), physiotherapy modalities, gels & lotions, gowns, pillows, spinal models, x-ray viewer built into a desk, anatomical posters, and even chiropractic art work, which will be owned by the doc who purchases the clinic. More than 1,200 physical patient files are also included. Additionally, I have extra clinic forms (in both English & Spanish) with connections to a local printing company, which can also create new signage to stick on the clinic’s front window and sliding glass door (for about $80).

The same local number (which is connected to WhatsApp) along with the actual office cellphone (costing less than $20 per month for service) will also be included in the sale of the clinic, as well as the contact number for an English-speaking marketing guy whom I’ve used to advertise on Facebook, etc before.  My current DataFast contract with machine able to accept credit and debit cards will also be transferred to the new owner. My current female secretary / therapist will NOT be available to the new owner, but a full-time worker can be had for between $600-700 per month.

In terms of practice style, I’m an old-school Diversified full-spine and extremity adjuster who uses modalities, such as acupuncture, electronic muscle stimulation and myofascial techniques. Treatments with me take from 25-40 minutes (although I tend to be chatty!), and this clinic can accommodate three patients on the tables at any given moment (as well as a new patient in the consult room too). I don’t think the new owner needs to use acupuncture, but he/she should probably have a desire to do some myofascial work either pre- or post-adjustment.

Keep in mind, chiropractic is not “regulated” in Ecuador and is rather easy / convenient to work here. To get your work visa here and be classified as a “professional,” all the government really cares about is your undergraduate university degree, which it will certify. For those chiropractors who only have 3 years of undergraduate science classes before   they obtained their Doctor of Chiropractic, the visa process may be more complicated. Furthermore, no malpractice insurance or professional fees are required here, and income tax can be readily managed to less than 5%. As such, this   is a great opportunity for a young or middle-aged doc with a sense of adventure who wants to escape the “grind” and political landscape of Canada or the United States, and enjoy a simpler life in a great climate with a low cost of living.

Price is $18,500 USD, which doesn’t include any costs associated with a work visa, hiring a secretary / therapist, Internet marketing, or living accommodations. By the way, in terms of apartments, local 1-bedroom furnished units can be had for less than $700 per month depending on level of luxury. For transportation, taxis are safe, plentiful and cost almost always less than $3 if you’re traveling in the northern part of Quito (La Carolina area) for groceries / shopping.
